2024 American Residential Design Awards – Renovation

This home was purchased by a well-known local Chef / Restaurant Owner for his growing family. Although the size and certain limitations of the original structure have its limitations, the school system for his children was the main deciding factor for acquiring the property. Although technically not built the renovation has been through all of the bid process and pre-approval from the town. In fact, construction should start mid-July.

The challenge on this project was dealing with a base structure that is "L" shaped long and thin (only 18 feet wide) and no room without variance or major structural to widen. His wishes were for a "Chefs Kitchen", Master suite away from secondary sleeping quarters a casual open dining space, mudroom and potential aging parent sleeping space. Not to mention the desire to update the facade to add charm and curb appeal. We will be able to achieve this with minimal disruption. The primary bedroom will be a second-floor addition utilizing clear span joist system. The mudroom will be a standalone attached structure and the existing basement stairs will be relocated to establish a new stair tower that serves the second floor and basement all while freeing up space to create the kitchen of his dreams with double service islands.
